Camera recalibration

Many newer vehicles have a safety camera mounted behind the windshield. After new glass goes in, that camera has to be recalibrated so the driver-assist systems (often called ADAS) read the road correctly.

When recalibration is needed

  • After a windshield replacement on a vehicle with a forward-facing camera
  • When the camera or its bracket has been removed or disconnected
  • After a collision, even a minor one
  • When a driver-assist warning light stays on, or lane assist and automatic braking act differently than they used to

Glass installed somewhere else?

That's fine. We recalibrate cameras even when another shop replaced the windshield.

What the camera controls

It depends on the vehicle, but the camera behind the windshield commonly feeds:

  • Lane departure warning and lane keeping
  • Automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic high beams and traffic sign reading

Have this ready when you call

  • Year, make and model
  • Your VIN if it's handy
  • Whether the windshield was just replaced, and who replaced it
  • Any warning lights or messages on the dash
